Dr Marius Nedelcu

Visceral & bariatric surgeon

Originally from Romania, my interest in bariatric surgery dates back to my final year of medical school (2006), when I spent a month in Strasbourg attending my first bariatric surgery course. After a short stay in the United States, where I completed all my exams (see ECFMG certificate), I decided to return to France for family reasons.

I expanded my experience in bariatric surgery under the mentorship of Professor David Nocca (2010 – 2012) and Prof. Jacques Himpens (2013). They gave me the opportunity to perform my first bariatric procedures as a resident and also encouraged my scientific work with Professor Michel Gagner (notably for the first worldwide sleeve gastrectomy). By 2020, I had published over 80 bariatric surgery articles, with more than half related to sleeve gastrectomy. Subsequently, I became a reviewer for SOARD (see certificate), and in June 2016, I received the “Certificate of Exceptional Contribution.”

In 2013, I became a clinical fellow at the University of Strasbourg, and since 2017, I have started my bariatric practice in the South of France, in Marseille and Toulon. Since 2019, with the support of ELSAN, alongside my mentor in endoscopy, Dr. Thierry Manos, I have also developed my bariatric endoscopy experience with several papers regarding endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.

My concept for bariatric surgery: The PATIENT must always remain at the center of our practice, actively involved in their weight loss journey, including the choice of procedure: sleeve gastrectomy, bypass,  or new surgical or endoscopic techniques.
